Punta Arenas, the port of gold at the end of the rainbow
Don’t think Chile’s charms end in Torres del Paine: make sure you go all the way South and take in what Punta Arenas has to offer. Until the strait of Panama was opened, it was the main port for navigating in between the Pacific and the Atlantic. Today, it is home to museums and natural reserves including penguin-watching and some of the world’s finest king crab. Going halfway down the country is more than worth it. A better travel destination during the summer months, this small town is still a huge port to Chilean fjords and Antarctica.
